Catechists Needed
Catechetics: ”Knowledge of the faith (fides quae) is required by adherence to the faith ( fides qua) . . . Catechesis must therefore, lead to “the gradual grasping of the whole truth about the divine plan.”

GENERAL DIRECTORY FOR CATECHESIS, 85

The first task of Catechesis is that we promote knowledge of the faith! It is a huge undertaking to assist parents in the Faith Formation of their children. It is certainly a very important task that we in this parish community try to do. We have a dedicated coordinator of catechetics that plan, prepare and implement an excellent program of religious education but she cannot do it without a host of volunteers.

There are members of the this parish who would like to work as catechists, but feel somewhat intimidated and wonder whether they know enough to teach the Catholic faith to others. Many of these individuals know more than they think they do; many are ”cradle Catholics” who know a great deal about the teachings through their own experiences in parish life or Catholic schools.

If you are searching for a way to consolidate and organize that knowledge so that it will be conducive to teaching the faith and in turn deepening your own faith please consider the rewards! Following are the position for which volunteers are needed. Please know that we all work in teams of two.

Giving of your time:

  • Classes: Classes are taught at G. P. Vanier School on Wednesday 6:30 to 7:30p.m.

  • Catechist Meetings and Retreats: throughout the year

  • Special events: where you are needed to assist

  • Mass: attendance on a weekly basis

Please consider this an invitation to share your gift of faith with others!

Catechism Communication

In an attempt to improve communication between Parents, Catechists, and Coordinators, the following guidelines have been drafted. All parties are equally responsible for sharing any information which may improve the quality of Catechism classes.

PARENTS:
Please ensure the Coordinator has been notified, in writing, of any health concerns your child may experience, such as diabetes, epilepsy, asthma, ADD/ ADHD, allergies, etc. Include with this information, what steps should be followed should your child experience any difficulties. This information will be shared with your child’s Catechists to enable them to properly care for your child.

Please notify your child’s Catechist of any skills that you have that you would be willing to share with the Catechism class. It may be crafts, praying, drama, phone committee, etc. The greater the input from parents, the stronger the Catechism Program will be.

Please contact the Coordinator if you have an issue concerning your child’s Catechism environment.

CATECHISTS:
Please contact your Coordinator if you have an issue concerning a child in your class. Difficulties will be discussed and possible solutions explored.

Please provide your Coordinator with a copy of any notices for parents or outside materials you wish to use in the classroom, three (3) days before they are to be distributed or used.

COORDINATOR:
I will try to provide Catechism information to Catechists and Parents when requested. If requests exceed our available information, we will request assistance from the Pastor.

I, the undersigned, will keep all medical information confidential and share only with your child’s Catechists.

Any concerns brought to the Coordinator will be treated seriously and will be addressed promptly. All parties concerned will be contacted to ensure resolution to everyone’s satisfaction.
